Fewer IDIQ Opportunities for IT Players
Information Technology (IT) contracts make up ten percent (10%) or more of the federal market. In fact, the total projected expenditures for all active IT IDIQs easily exceeds $100 billion. Yet, IT Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts are not announced at FedBizOpps as often as might be expected. Fedmarket believes that the reason for this is because the IT market has been saturated with an alphabet soup of IDIQs over the past few years (e.g., SOUP, Eagle, Encore, EPIC, Alliant, Stars, Vets, Seaport, etc.) and that the market is correcting the oversaturation.
Most IDIQs appearing at FedBizOpps in late 2011 and 2012 have been for IT infrastructure operation and support, a service not predominant in currently-active IDIQs. Seeing as current IT IDIQs already in place incorporate the majority of the rest of the spectrum of IT services, we predict that we are likely to see fewer postings for IT IDIQs in the near future.
